Screen capture in 3ds Max
There are many occasions where you’d need to make a screen capture in 3ds Max. Documenting a process, communication with clients and colleagues, posting issues to forums. It’s always quicker to use an image to support what you’re saying. This script will help you to quickly capture what you need.
The installation procedure is similar to this.
This script captures windows. A window is any part of the screen which has its own id. In 3ds Max this could be a viewport, a toolbar, the commandpanel, a button, the maxscript listener, and so on. If the script is active, just click on any part of a window to capture the entire window. The image is previewed. Not what you want? Just try again.
More than viewports
You can capture anything on the screen, not just viewports. Why not share the buttons you’ve set up in the commandpanel or show that awesome shader you’ve created? You can do it with this script.

pero acaso no puedes usar el snipping tool de windows directamente ?
es exactamente lo mismo y es parte del sistema windows.
I just programmed it because I could! Indeed this example is similar to screencapturing from any other program. However, I’m integrating this into other scripts, like sending a tweet with an image directly from max. This is cumbersome when using existing screencapture programs.
Just found this after pure luck and I was looking for a screen dump scritpt for Max 2015. Love it mate, great work 🙂
Great Toby, glad you like it.
Hello.. can this script capture the screen by using 4 pins and then skew it to make a rectagular image. .. just like sketchup does? i do not know if Im making sense.. the thing i find difficult is that we have to screencapture a image then select the part we want using lasso and then skew it till it straightens up to us it as a texture…
No, I’m sorry. You’d neet photoshop for that. Or map the screengrab on a plane and modify the UV coordinates.
